PRR 6840, M-1, 1957         
East Altoona. Here is an original photo by Paul Carleton that was taken in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 29 August 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6840, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1926 and retired in June of 1959 after 33 years of faithful service. Tracks of the Westbound Classification Yard pass under the 17th Street Bridge at this point.
