Theyre everywhere
Title:  Theyre everywhere
Description:  Years ago, if you wanted to see G&W power, you had to go to western New York, where the original operation had a small fleet of Alcos they used to run salt trains from the mine in Retsof. Over the years, they became a much larger operation, a holding company with short and regional lines all over. While on the way to Tehachapi, I saw this train rolling through Bakersfield, and was able to get a shot. The day before, I had seen one in Visalia, not too far away.

Real find
Title:  Real find
Description:  I dont shoot a lot of short lines and regionals as a rule. Not that I dont like them, they are often hard to find running. Unlike UP or BNSF, their operations are often not obvious to an outsider, and since I often have limited time to go exploring, I dont take the time to seek them out. So I was pleasantly surprised when driving through Panama City to see the gates going down across US 98. I grabbed the shot, getting this 21 car local with, of all things, a New England Central unit leading, about as far as one can get from Gulf Coast Florida in distance and temperament.

Sequatchie Valley
Title:  Sequatchie Valley
Description:  This short line is named for a local creek, and operates a cast off CSX branch in the South Pittsburg Tenn, area, with a couple of ex UP switchers. I was lucky today. I caught a short line working, and the sun came out!! I like short lines, but dont always have the patience to seek them out, as they often run on erratic schedules, and sometimes not daily. So this was a good catch. I could hear this train coming for 15 minutes. Train speed was only about 10 MPH, so he was a ways off when I first heard him. The timing turned out to be perfect, as the sun popped through just as he came around the curve.
