Title:
PRR 4573, I-1SA, #1 of 2, c. 1952
Description:
Niles I. Here is the ninth of 11 original photos by George Niles, Jr., that were taken at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps during 1952. Shown here (R to L) is PRR engine #4573 and another locomotive whose road number is not recorded. Both are Class "I" (2-10-0) "Decapods." #4573 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during September of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in November of 1942, and retired in November of 1955 after 32 years of faithful service. In this context, they're serving as tail-end pushers. The number of the N-5 cabin car is not recorded. (#1 of 2)
