ATSF 4-6-2 #1398 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe
Description:
After a failed experiment with a 4-4-6-2, the Santa Fe shops rebuilt one into two Pacifics in 1915 as a new class 1398. Each Pacific had 73" drivers, could generate a boiler pressure of 200 psi for its 23.5"x28" cylinders. The engine weight of 269,390 lb and a tractive effort of 36,010 lb. No date, location or photographer were identified on the back of this photo so date and location are approximate.
