Tim Schramer General I have to admit, this picture blew me away. I grew up in Batavia in the 60's/70's and a big train buff complete with the giant basement train layout, but I moved away in the 80's. I had know idea any excursion train ever got anywhere near Batavia other than the UP/CNW (Geneva) and BSNF (Aurora) mainlines. This last bit of active railbed in Batavia happens to be the oldest in BNSF (at least from the C.B & Q. portion), so perhaps the presence of the excusion train was to pay homage to this legacy. A few miles down the track from this picture, this glorious train must have utilized the most grass-overgrown, under-maintained rails (in fact now gone) just before reaching the mainline in West Chicago. That would have been an even greater pic! 3/2/2013 9:01:42 AM
