Union Pacific GP40 637
Wearing a coat of relatively fresh paint, GP40 637 was snapped at LaSalle in August 1980. 637 was built in March 1970 as Rock Island 4706. It was actually owned by UP but was leased to Rock Island. When the Rock shut in 1980, 4706 was returned to the UP. It received the number 637 and UP paint in April 1980. It was transferred to the Missouri Pacific in 1985 and was retired in 1988. 637 was rebuilt in 1989, sold to Helm Leasing and returned to service as UP 856. In 1998, it was rebuilt to a GP38-2 and became UP 2533.
