DMIR 2-8-8-4 #232 - Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range         
Built by Baldwin in January of 1943 as DMIR #232, this was the second batch of massive 2-8-8-4's that DMIR ordered from Baldwin as they were very pleased with the 1941 batch. The loco lasted nearly 19 years of active iron ore drags to Duluth and Twin Harbors before being retired and scrapped in 1962. Specs - M4 class, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 699,700 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb. There was no date, location or photographer listed for this photo so an approximate date and location were used.
