DMIR 2-8-8-4 #224 - Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range         
With a huge cloud of smoke, this 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone type steam locomotive, DMIR #224, takes off for another revenue service trip. Built by Baldwin in May of 1941, it lasted for nearly 21 years in service before being scrapped in 1962. Specs - class M3, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 695,040, tractive effort of 140, 000 lb. There was no date, location or photographer listed for this photo so an approximate date and location were used.
