Here is page 21 of a 32-page cover article entitled "Juice Jacks: The Electric Locomotive Comes Of Age." It was published originally in the July 1944 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 28. Photo Caption: "Pennsy R-1, wheeling the 'Broadway.'" Photo by Lucius Beebe. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4999, the R-1 (2-D-2) electric built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as number "4800" in September of 1934, renumbered "4899" in November of 1934, renumbered "4999" in March of 1940, and retired in October of 1956 after 22 years of faithful service. Also notable is a graphic depiction of a prototypical catenary setup on the PRR.
