PRR 6700, M-1B, #4 of 6, c. 1957
Here is the fourth of six original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken just East of the Coaling Tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Shown here is the firebox backhead of Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6700, an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an M-1A during March of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in March of 1944, and retired in June of 1957 after 27 years of faithful service. So you think running a steam locomotive was easy, do you?
