PRR 4628, I-1SA, #1 of 2, 1956
Coal Power. Here is the first of two successive 35mm color slides of photos by Robert Wanner that were taken in August of 1956. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4628 and two unidentified EF-15's built by GM-EMD. #4628 is an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during October of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in May of 1935, and retired in October of 1958 after 35 years of faithful service. In this context, they're hauling an eastbound ore train on the Shamokin Branch. The exact date and the location are not recorded. (Gift from Brad Mann.)
