| Great narrow gauge action shot of Denver & Rio Grande Western 2-8-2 #473 & 486 double heading a string of mostly flatcars. DRGW #473 was built by Alco-Schenectady in September of 1923. The narrow gauge Mikado worked until being retired and eventually sold to the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge in March of 1961. DRGW #486 was built by Baldwin (serial #58587) in 1925 and lasted until retirement and dontaed to the Royal Gorge Park for display. Not over though, since it was traded to Durango & Silverton for #499 in 1999 and rebuilt. It ran for the first time on DSNG in August of 2000. No location or photographer was listed. Although the date stamp on the slide is April, 1974, it appears more like early 1950's photo. |
