This bore was completed in 1856 for the State-owned Allegheny Portage Railroad, later owned but little used by the PRR, and virtually abandoned for almost 50 years. Around 1903, however, it was renovated and double-tracked, and became the PRR's primary tunnel for eastbound traffic. |
