PRR Gallitzin Tunnels, #1 of 2, c. 1902
iLocations. Here is the first of two images showing the western faces of two Pennsylvania Railroad tunnels in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, c. 1902. At the right, steam locomotive smoke drifts out of the double-tracked Allegheny Tunnel, completed during 1854. From then until 1904, this was the PRR's only tunnel for both east- and westbound traffic. At the left, work has just begun on the Gallitzin Tunnel. The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded.
