Here is page three of a five-page article by C.E. Starr entitled "Conemaugh Crossroads." It was published originally in the May 1947 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 29. Top Photo Caption: "Westbound VC-1, the Enola-Cleveland hot shot headed by engine 6956, is about to cross the bridge." Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6956 is an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during December of 1926 and retired in November of 1949. Bottom Photo Caption: "Along the Allegheny River near Freeport are stretches of multiple track. The bluffs usually are only a few feet from the river. Pennsylvania Railroad follows both banks." Shown here is PRR engine #515, an I-1S built in Juniata during October of 1918 and retired in January of 1960.
