Winter Day. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in February of 1966. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7262 and three more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #7262 is an EFS-17M built in November of 1959 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. They're about to pass under the 4th Street Footbridge and into the Eastbound Receiving Yard with a fully-loaded mineral train. The westbound train of empty hopper cars pulled by engine #6046 is on the next track over. Visible in the distance is the 7th Street Bridge; beyond the Bridge are some of the PRR 12th Street Car Shop buildings. The venerable black water tower ~ last vestige of the Age of Steam in this part of town ~ stands siltetly at the right. |
