BNSF 1800  Contributor's Pick!
When delivered to Santa Fe as SD40-2 5030 in October 1977 this EMD was assigned to high priority freights well into the 1990s. Since the BNSF merger this locomotive was renumbered first to 6345 then to 1800 and trading yellow and blue for black and orange. Since renumbering and repainting this locomotive was demoted to 2,999 horsepower making it (and all other SD40-2s on the roster) unfit for road service and now carries an SD39-2 stencil below the front cab walkway. The two stencils on the front anticlimber are "9 INCH MAXIMUM END PLATE HEIGHT" and "YARD OR TRAIL SERVICE ONLY".
