In for repairs
The shroud on the Fireman's side was bent inward, toward the wheel. This fact came to light after being "squeezed" off the rails on several occasions. After rerailing we would inspect EVERYTHING concerned with the RR, the derailment and the equip., nothing. Finally, after one such event, I noticed a deep red "smear" on the wall of snow where the derailment had happened. Some of the guys thought a dead deer had been "discovered" in the snow but, after doin' a "forensic analysis" of the crime scene the smear seemed more to resemble paint than blood. A careful examination of the plow eventually revealed the inward slant of the shroud causing the extremely hard snow to "shoulder" the machine laterally off the rail. An overnight torch session in the RH restored thr correct profile of the shroud and plowing resumed with no further incidents. "IN" the RH is actually incorrect. The cab of the rotary would NOT fit through a RH door.
