CB&Q PMC 9845
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad PMC 9845 at Lenox, Iowa, north of Saint Joseph, Missouri, on an unknown day in October 1957, Kodachrome by Dick Rumbolz, Chuck Zeiler collection. Gas-electrics were classed as PMC (Passenger Motor Car) by the Burlington, although drawings of this number series also show Class ED-3B. This particular PMC was built in July 1928 as 845, body by Pullman, power plant by Electro-Motive Corporation (c/n 279) driving Westinghouse electrical gear. The number 9 was prefixed to all the PMC numbers in the 1930's, and thus this one became 9845. Originally powered by a EMC Model 120 - 275 horsepower gasoline engine coupled to a DC generator, the power plant was later replaced with a 400 hp diesel. This PMC was scrapped in August 1961.

Chuck Zeiler General Lenny, thank you very much for the location correction. I went back and looked at the slide mount, and it is marked NO. OF ST. JOE so that's all I had to work with. I will make the corrections. Also, I went on Google Earth to find out where Lenox is, and it appears that the rails have been taken up. Thanks again, Chuck. 11/13/2016 10:03:44 AM
