Santa Cruz and Big Trees 2524 rests in Watsonville. 2524 was built in late 1949 as an F7A for Santa Fe. In the mid 70s, the locomotive was rebuilt at Cleburne as a CF7. When ATSF was looking to sell off their CF7s, the Red River Valley and Western, an affiliate of Twin Cities and Western, purchased several of the CF7s. This unit and its sister 2467 were then purchased by the Texas Rock Crusher Railway, who in turn sold it to the SCBG in June of 2018. |

In the summer, it runs trains down into Santa Cruz, for some great street running with wigwags and tunnels. CF7 #2600 began life as F7(A) 248L in February of 1951. The Santa Fe rebuilt it into a CF7 in October of 1972. |

Santa Cruz Big Trees & Pacific 2600 rumbles across Lincoln Street, past one of the last operating wig-wag signals in California. Only three wigwag crossings are still installed in northern California, and Santa Cruz is home to all three. Of these three, only two are still active, with a third still in place but unused as of 2017. The in-service wigwags are located along Chestnut Street, where the Beach Train must run seven blocks down the middle of the street. The wigwags protect the Walnut-Chestnut and Lincoln-Chestnut intersections. Formerly, an additional two were located in Richmond and Ager respectively. |

Just out of frame to the right is the famed Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. 2600 is leading a return journey for tourists who took the morning train south from Felton to the beach. The CF7 was built as Santa Fe 248, an F7 built in 1951, and was one of 233 F units that Santa Fe rebuilt as hood units. Today, these units can still be found on several shortlines and tourist operations such as this one. |

As part of Santa Fes F-unit rebuild program of the 70s, the unit was rebuilt into a CF7 in 1971. It came to Roaring Camp in the late 1980s, and for several years, wore its freightbonnet paint as it ran between Felton and the Boardwalk, until it recieved its current paint in the late 90s-early 2000s.
