Built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin predecessor) in October of 1907, Frisco 2-8-0 Consolidation #1231 served them well. About half way through its service, it was rebuilt with a superheater and piston valves in 1930. After nearly 45 years of faithful service, the loco met up with the scrapper's torch in January of 1952 at the Springfield, MO, yard. Specs - class 1226, 57" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 22x30" cylinders, engine weight of 207,000 lb, tractive effort of 43,300 lb. Arthur B. Johnson photo |
