B&O 6455 crossing Dewey Ave. - 1 of 4
Title:  B&O 6455 crossing Dewey Ave. - 1 of 4
Description:  Date approximate. The geep is just passing the switch stands for the two sidings on either side of the main. The glass factory siding is full of hoppers, either headed to (loaded) or from (empty) the docks. The NYC is about 100 ft. to the right, barely visible. Note the poplars (aka lightning rods) lining the border between the NYC and the cemetery. Note also the RR signal lines (poles) down the center between the two tracks. Lastly, take a look at the billboard - after all these years, Reithoffer Shows are still in business.

B&O 6455 crossing Dewey Ave. - 2 of 4
Title:  B&O 6455 crossing Dewey Ave. - 2 of 4
Description:  Date approximate. Lots to unpack here. Looks like a Chevy II waiting at the crossing. At the Chevron gas station (featuring Champion spark plugs), parked on the side are a two-tone '58 Chevy and what appears to be a '57 Chevy wagon with a missing front bumper. Romig's Tavern (center of the building in the rear) is offering Hot Fish & Chips "to take home". The barber shop offers "college cuts" (whatever they are ...) and Mary Creasy's Beauty Shoppe anchors the end of the plaza. The orange and green trailers were rented out by the gas station.

B&O 6455 crossing Dewey Ave. - 3 of 4
Title:  B&O 6455 crossing Dewey Ave. - 3 of 4
Description:  Date approximate. Classic style B&O paint scheme on the geep. The two empty box cars are from either Matthews & Fields (Stonewood) or Greece Lumber (Latta Rd.), followed by an equally classic I-10 caboose. Not to be outdone by GM, an easily spotted 1960 Ford waits for the train to clear.

B&O 6455 crossing Dewey Ave. - 4 of 4
Title:  B&O 6455 crossing Dewey Ave. - 4 of 4
Description:  No, it's not 1965. This is today's google maps view. Chevron is gone, as are all the GMs and Fords (and the GP9). Brush has overtaken the B&O (now R&S). Romig's still survives and now occupies the entire plaza. The RR signal lines are gone and the poplars have been chopped down. And the NYC is now CSX (how does THAT happen?).
