Here is the second of three photos by an unidentified photographer of a motive power display run by the Pennsylvania Railroad at its West Philadelphia Yards in March of 1924. Prominent here (L to R) are engines #3700, #3931, and #3930. All were built in Juniata. #3700 is the HC-1S (2-8-8-0) steam locomotive built during June of 1919 and retired in August of 1929. #3931 is the FF-1 (1-C-C-1) electric engine built in April of 1917, rated at 4,000 horsepower, and retired in April of 1940. And #3930 is the L-5 (1-B-B-1) electric engine built in January of 1924, rated at 3,300 horsepower, and retired in May of 1944. "Yo, Buddy, please don't step on the railhead!" |

Depicted here are PRR engines #3930, #3929, as well as "Doodlebug" #4731. #3930 is the L-5 (1-B-B-1) electric built in Juniata during January of 1924, rated at 3,300 horsepower, and retired in May of 1944. Engine #3939 is an L-5A (1-B-B-1) electric built in Juniata in January of 1925, rated at 3,070 horsepower, and retired in July of 1942. And "Doodlebug" #4731 is a J.G. Brill-250 gasoline-electric rail motor car that was built in 1925. |
