PRR 8656, AS-18AM, 1965
Title:  PRR 8656, AS-18AM, 1965
Description:  Rainy. Here is an original telephoto that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8656, #8655, #2261, #2360, and #7186-B. #8656 and #8655 are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company in December of 1957 and rated at 1,800 horsepower each; they're serving as front-end helpers here. #2261 and #2360 are EF-25's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2261 was built in May of 1964, but #2360 was built in March of 1965. #7186-B is an EFS-17M built by GM-EMD in November of 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. They're about to pass under four-track Signal Bridge #2417/6 with a 99-car mixed-cargo freight train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. (#3 of 21)
