Album Info:I had the amazing good fortune to be aboard the Pan Am / High Iron passenger special that ran from Boston/North Station to Mechanicville, NY on Saturday, April 13, 2013. We had 3 generations of Krug’s on board - my Dad and my son accompanied me and we all had a memorably great day. There was one photo runby where the passengers de-trained at the East Portal of the Hoosac Tunnel and I also got a few photos of Pan Am’s beautiful FP7 diesels when we de-trained at Mechanicville for the bus ride back to Boston. I couldn’t get as many trackside photos as the chasers, but there are a few here that offer a somewhat different perspective from the usual chase. And I’ve already found clips of myself in several of the photos and videos that have been posted by the railfans who chased us. The trip went off without a hitch; very professional, and near-perfect execution by the Pan Am and High Iron people responsible for pulling it off. It was magical time travel back to the streamliner days of the 50’s and 60’s. I’m grateful to have been able to ride this excursion with my father and my son.

A different perspective of the old B&M interlocking plant at Johnsonville, NY
Title:  A different perspective of the old B&M interlocking plant at Johnsonville, NY
Description:  This tower once controlled the junction of the western main line of the B&M (to Rotterdam Jct), and the passenger line down to Troy, NY Union Station; long-ago abandoned and torn up. Here you see Johnsonville Tower from the open Dutch window in the vestibule of the first car (dome) on the train. It's a popular photo prop for many of us who railfan the west end of Pan Am Railways.

Railfan photo line along Fisherman's Lane
Title:  Railfan photo line along Fisherman's Lane
Description:  The highly scenic photographer's location of Fisherman's Lane hosts a larger-than-normal assemblage of railfans who came out to chase the special. I've already seen photos that were posted by these guys. I can even make myself out (in the open dutch door of the vestibule) in some of the photos that are being snapped simultaneously as I'm photographing my fellow trackside railfans from the train. I reckon there are some RRPictureArchives contributors in this photo. Are YOU in this photo?

Trip over - we board the buses heading back to Boston
Title:  Trip over - we board the buses heading back to Boston
Description:  The excursion ended at Pan Am's intermodal (fillet and toupee) facility on the site of the former Mechanicville yard. The trip's over, but the smile still hasn't left my face.
