Album Info:During the Fort Wayne RR Historical Society Open House held October 28-30th to mark the most recent restoration anniversary of the famous NKP 765, an historical steam engine sat inside the shop awaiting a verdict - restore or not. According to the info poster present, Lake Erie & Fort Wayne 0-6-0 #1 is one of only two surviving steam locomotives built for the Wabash Railroad. Originally constructed as #534 in 1906 by ALCO as a B-7 class 0-6-0 switcher, it spent most of its life switching both passenger and freight cars. In 1954, it became "The One Spot" in service for the Lake Erie & Fort Wayne serving local businesses. In 1957 it was placed on display in Swinnery Park. Finally in 1984, it and Wabash caboose 2543 were donated to the society. Currently LE&FW #1 is undergoing inspection for restoration candidacy. This is one candidate I would vole for - restore it if possible for it deserves it having lasted longer than we will!

Title:  LE&FW 0-6-0 1, ex-WAB 0-6-0 534
Description:  The rear of the boiler housing with the cab removed shows more extensive weathering as a result of its neglect as a display piece than do other parts of the switcher.

Title:  LE&FW 0-6-0 1, ex-WAB 0-6-0 534 Tender Shell
Description:  Sitting outside on an Illinois Terminal flatcar is the Lake Erie & Fort Wayne tender shell. Hopefully it can be restored along with its steam engine to its right place as an historic piece of railroading. A difficult project but hopefully it will be done if the FWHS thinks it is possible. They should know - they brought back NKP 765 to life!
