Album Info:After the initial historic wire pull through downtown Michigan City (see CSS Wire Replacement Michigan City - Day 1 Album), the next day involved the proper positioning of the wire above the tracks. According to August Greidan, one of the consulting engineers on the project, the wire would be stretched under higher than normal tension to work out the sags and kinks first. Then the wire would be installed in its permanent holders and positioned with the correct deviation both vertically and laterally according to precise calculations for each hanger along the 3 mile street running section with its curves and slight hills. By the time I reached the area, the temporary pulleys holding the wire had been replaced and work had progressed more than half way on configuring the final position of each holder. One unusual aspect is the merger between the single wire and the more common catenary wire combo (a messenger support wire and a suspended contact wire) at the east side of Michigan City.
