Album Info:Here is a three-page article by Mr. Denis Connell entitled "Altoona Sunday!" It was published originally in the January 1988 issue of "Railpace Newsmagazine," pages 22-24. It recounts the author's impressions while riding the Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad's "Horseshoe Curve Excursion" on Sunday, 1 November 1987.

Description:  Here is an original 35mm color slide by M.E. Brouse that was taken just East of the 24th Street Bridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 1 November 1987. Shown here (R to L) are former Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5898 and #5706. Both are E-8A's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each; #5898 was built in March of 1951, while #5706 was built in October of 1952. At the time this photo was taken, they were owned by the Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad and are seen pulling the 17-car "Horseshoe Curve Excursion" down the Allegheny Mountains and will soon stop at the Altoona Passenger Station before returning to Hamburg.
