A creative yard crew put together this lash-up that was headed west of Vaughn, NM, on its way toward Belen. The make-up of Frisco, BN, Frisco and BN units makes it hard to believe it wasn't a planned move. This was shot with a Vivitar 220SL with a 135mm lens and slide film. Years later, it was printed as a picture and scanned to secure the image ... thus the poor quality. |

TXSO 104 at the ready in San Antonio, awaiting riders for the 50-mile (one-way) dinner run to Hondo. At Hondo, the power would uncouple and run around the train for the trip back to San Antonio. The company leased trackage rights over the Southern Pacific. I remember the food as being very, very good ... but for a newspaper sportswriter, the ticket price ($47) dented my wallet. |
